Showcase: Cumaru pool surround with mitered picture frame — Long Island

Wrapped up a 900 sq ft Cumaru pool surround last week. Full picture-frame border with mitered corners, hidden fasteners throughout, and a custom drainage gap detail at the coping so splash-out drains away from the bond beam. Boards were acclimated 10 days under cover. Client went with a penetrating oil finish — the color is unreal in evening light. Happy to share the coping detail if anyone wants it.

That drainage detail at the coping is the part everyone skips and regrets. Would love to see the section drawing.

Beautiful work. How are you handling the mitered corners long-term? I've had picture-frame miters open up 1/16"+ on Cumaru pool decks with all that moisture cycling.

@Dana — glued splines and a stainless trim screw hidden under the plug at each miter. Two seasons in on this detail elsewhere and they've held tight.
