Struggling with screw head mushrooming on pre-drilled Massaranduba

Has anyone else run into issues with head mushrooming on 5/4x6 Massaranduba lately? I am using the usual 305 stainless trim head screws, and even with a 1/8 inch pilot bit, I am getting consistent volcanoing around the holes. I have tried stepping up to a 9/64 bit to give the shank more clearance, but then I lose that tight bite I need for the hardwood. I am currently working on a 400sqft deck in the humid Georgia heat, and the density of this current batch is unreal. I’m thinking about switching to a dedicated counter-sink bit with a stop collar to take the pressure off the entry point, but I’m worried about adding extra time to the install. Is anyone using a specific brand of coated trim screw that handles this density better without snapping?

Nate Chambers here. Since Massaranduba is so incredibly dense, that mushrooming usually happens because the wood fibers aren't being cleared away properly at the surface. Using a countersink bit to create a clean seat for the head should stop the volcano effect, even if it adds a bit of time.
